How Specialty Soybeans Can Enhance Profitability

The head of DF Seeds, Janna Fritz, says specialty soybean varieties can help growers manage risk.

President Janna Fritz tells Brownfield more farmers are protecting profitability by diversifying their soybean mix to include non-GM, organic, food grade, and feed grade beans.

“They have different agronomic profiles, you’re going to enable crop diversity and a diverse spray program that hopefully should decrease the amount of resistance when we’re talking about weed control,” she explains.

She says premiums per bushel vary depending on the end market. “Usually there’s an opportunity for a dollar or two dollars, sometimes even more,” she shares.

Fritz recommends farmers work with their local elevator to find the best fit.
