DF Seed Wheat: high quality products for the unique Michigan climate

As we are into (and maybe even finishing) harvest, wheat may be on the top of your mind. Additionally, with the challenges between Russia and Ukraine, wheat markets have been on a roller coaster.
Thus far, reports from the field indicate better than expected wheat yields across Michigan. This is great news as much of the state experienced drought conditions through May and June. The wheat crop appears to have come out of those dry periods, fairing better than expected.
As a Michigan wheat grower, you can look to DF Seeds for some of the newest varieties. We are leaders in the newest technology including the addition of the FHB1 gene. This gene helps manage Fusarium Head Scab. Our two newest red wheat varieties, DF 121 R and DF 131 R, have the FHB1 gene to help manage this disease.
Additionally, DF Seeds selects wheat varieties specifically for the Michigan environment. We know you need disease resistance, strong test weight, and great standability as you manage your wheat crop for the highest possible yield.
Our portfolio offers two white wheat varieties and four red wheat varieties. These varieties are all annually tested in Michigan. We have partnered with the Michigan Wheat Program and MSU Extension in their variety trials for many years. In the 2022 trials, the average yield was 90.9 bushels across the state. DF Seeds white wheat varieties (DF 271 W and Ambassador) yielded 93.25 bushels, 3.75 bushels more than the state average. That’s over $20 more per acre with DF Seeds varieties.
In the 2022 trials, DF Seeds red wheat varieties averaged 93.2 bushels, when we look at all locations across the state. Again, that’s more than 2 bushels over the state yield average, giving you more dollars per acre. 
Additionally, the average test weight in the 2022 Michigan yield trials was 57.8, while the average of the DF Seeds varieties was 58.7 test weight. That is another indication of superior wheat varieties through DF Seeds.
